Wednesday’s Flowers – Fresh Lavender

June 23, 2010

Yay!!  The lavender is finally in bloom.  I think I love lavender almost as much as peonies; it is a flower that has so much to offer.  The smell is so refreshing and healing, the colour is really the prettiest shade of purple and it is really good eye candy.

I have 4 lavender plants growing in my garden, one is old and well established, the other ones are new plantings so they are still not up to their blooming potential.  So, I do not have a plethora of flowers to work with and I did not want to strip all the flowers off the established plant for today’s flowers.  So, I did a little picking from all my herbs.  Just a little bit from each as I want to still have lots to use in cooking and baking.

Here is what I used in the little mini herb bouquets I made:

Lavender, coriander, sage, oh my!  Mixed with parsley, oregano and basil, so pretty!!

Since herbs are so beautiful on their own I wanted to show off the arrangements and not the vases, so I picked three small glass vases to display them in.  In 2 of the vases I made little hand-tied bouquets with the different herbs and in the 3rd vase I placed lavender by itself.  It is so simple and easy to do.

Mixing herbs together really does create a pretty, natural looking arrangement and it smells so good.

Do you grow herbs?  Try using some herbs to pretty up a table or as a fresh bouquet for a friend.  I’m going to smile for the next week when I see these little arrangements.  And I will dry the lavender when I’m done to enjoy it later.

Enjoy!!

I’ve decided that we will have lavender thrown at us after we are married. much better than bird seed or bubbles.
