We all need a little break once in a while, right?? Will I took one and I owe you all a huge apology for not posting last week. We went on a little mini vacation and I was not prepared to blog last Wednesday, I know I should have had something prepared but my life was too busy for being prepared. Anyhow, I’m back now, relaxed and ready to get back into creating Wednesday’s flowers.
We spent our little vacation on Manitoulin Island, an island scattered with very small towns, lots of beautiful country and tonnes of wild flower everywhere. It is a gorgeous, very relaxing place and I did not want to leave. So, seeing that my heart and soul is still on vacation I wanted to have that theme follow through in this week’s flowers.
This morning before the sever heat kicked in, I headed out into my garden, which has been very neglected, to have a look around. There really is not much blooming out there right now; I apparently need to plant some late spring to early summer flowers. But, I did manage to find what I was after to create the look I wanted. I was hoping for a girly arrangement with a bit of country charm, I think my garden managed to pull it of!
Here is a list of what I used in the arrangement:
Echinacea purpurea – Purple Coneflower
Hosta ‘Sum and Substance’ – Hosta
Coreopsis grandiflora – Tickseed
Sorbaria sorbifolia – False Spirea
Astrantia major – Great Masterwort
Heuchera sanguinea – Coral Bells
Clematis jackmanii – Jackman’s Clematis
In order to get the look I was hoping for I needed the arrangement to be open and airy. So to create this I created a grid on the top of the vase with clear florist tape. This allowed me to position the flowers exactly where I wanted them and the grid helped keep them in place. In the above photo you can see the clear grid and the tape I used.
To perfect the country charm look I used my white vintage Bennington of Vermont pottery pitcher, which I purchased along with 4 mugs off Etsy from Kim at Ethanollie. I love this pottery set so much, I keep it out on display at all times and it is so nice to finally have a pretty arrangement in it.
I’m really enjoying the mixture of colour. Purple, pink, yellow and white, you really cannot go wrong with that combination.
Do you have any vacation plans for the summer? Or plans for a little break? I’m not sure if we will have time to get away again this summer, so I’m looking forward to fall. Whatever your plans are I do hope you have fun!
