pretty petals – scabiosa pods

November 13, 2014

It is hard to believe that the beautiful scabiosa flower becomes this unique looking pod once the bloom goes to seed. ┬áThese funny little balls remind me of the velco type burrs that cling to your pant legs when you encounter a patch of burdock in late summer and fall. ┬áScabiosa pods, also know as stellata pods, are about 1.5″ in diameter and are dry and rough to the touch. They are a fun element in floral design because they can be used to create both contemporary styles and well as natural, gardeny looks.
