on our table – spring helleborus flowers

April 6, 2012

Our Easter table this year is very simple compared to last year’s Easter tablescape. This year we have several birthdays adding to the festivities of the weekend so I want to keep it simple and let the flowers speak for themselves.

Helleborus blooms are one of my favourite spring flowers. They may look sweet and dainty but these pretty blooms are tough and very hardy. They are one of the first flowers to bloom in the early spring so they do not mind the surprise snowfalls and drastic temperatures that come with the changing of the seasons. The blooms also hold on for months, in the garden they will blooms for 2 to 3 months.

I adore the speckle that appears on the odd bloom and their pretty shades of cream, pink and purple matched with the bright green foliage.

To keep it simple I sat a vintage glass vase filled with the Hellebore blooms in an old wooden box paired with a tiny moss terrarium.

An egg of two would be cute in the terrarium.
