fresh interiors – client’s kitchen makeover

November 8, 2011

I’m excited to share with you a recently completed kitchen makeover project I worked on with some great clients who live in a 25 year old house that we have been slowly updating. Two years ago we worked on refurnishing the living room and family room. This year when they were ready to makeover their kitchen they called me and we got to work on designing them a new kitchen that functioned to their needs and appealed to their aesthetics. The overall desired look the client’s wanted for this project was contemporary and streamlined yet comfortable.

Here is a quick look at the kitchen before the project began:

The old kitchen was gutted this summer and everything was replaced. Here is a list of a few of the design details we focused for this makeover:

  • remove the upper cabinets that divided the kitchen from the eating area
  • have a lower counter space for baking
  • have all the cabinets to ceiling height (no more bulkheads)
  • easy to access storage for smaller appliances and dishes
  • built in cabinets in the eating area for extra storage and cookbooks
  • space for a wine fridge
  • built in fridge and ovens
  • stone counter top with built in cook top
  • pot lights in dimmers and under cabinet lighting
  • stone back splash
  • lots of counter space for food prep
  • french doors leading to gardens
  • neutral, classic colour scheme
