Wednesday’s Flowers – Winter Colour

January 19, 2011

Did you survive Blue Monday???  Surprisingly I did, but I had the launch of the website and Living Fresh’s new look was to thank for my positive and happy Blue Monday.

But in reality, it really is a difficult time of year; the days are dark and gray and the cold temperatures are keeping us indoors.  Which makes it hard to keep that positive fresh start to the New Year vibe we all had a few weeks ago.  So, when it is gray and dull I like to add colour.  I love to see the bright, bold, and cheerful colours that we have an abundance of during the spring, summer and fall in the winter too.

So this week I wanted to add a little colour to your gray palette.  I started with a colourful $9.99 mixed flower bouquet with different shades of pink with lime green and purple.  It was a very pleasant sight to my eyes.

I paired the colourful flowers with dried artichokes that I spray painted white for a crisp, clean look.  White always compliments colour wonderfully.

I paired the colourful flowers with dried artichokes that I spray painted white for a crisp, clean look.  I find white really compliments colours wonderfully and make them pop.

I had recently purchased a white, milk glass vase at the local thrift store, so I used that to create the arrangement in.  The flowers and dried artichoke were cut and placed into flower foam.  To finish it off I added three clear glass tea light holders to the centre of the arrangement.  The tea lights add some much needed warmth and allow the arrangement to be enjoyed on a dull day or at night.

Do you have any tricks to help beat the winter blues?  Besides having lots of colour in my life I have found yoga helps me to focus and get past the horrible feelings that arise at this time of the year.  If you have not, I suggest you give both a try.

Enjoy!

  • Tina,
congratulations on the new FRESH website! Nice job on the beautiful arrangement – very pretty. I imagine the nice aroma of the fresh flowers combined with the awesome colors of the flowers and of course the welcomed sunshine yesterday would brighten anyones day! Thanks for sharing!
