Wednesday’s Flowers – Simple Thanksgiving

October 5, 2011

Since Thanksgiving is this weekend for me and all my fellow Canadians I thought I would share with you a simple, but fun way to fest up your home or table.  The great thing about holiday decorating is the possibilities are endless and you do not need to spend a lot of money.

First did you know gourds floated?  I did not.  So please keep that in mind when creating the arrangement.

Place a few gourds in the bottom of the largest vase, fill the vase with 2 inches of water, and remember gourds float!  If you have large flowers to work with add one large flower to the arrangement.  The bloom should sit nicely on top of the gourds.

What you need to create this arrangement:

  • A bouquet of fall flowers, I used Spider Mums in a burnt orange shade ($7.99 for a bunch of 7).
  • An assortment of gourds and mini pumpkins
  • 2 glass vases, different shapes, one vase must have a wide opening.  They can be different styles if you like.  I used a round rose bowl vase and a Crown Mason jar.

Fill the other vase full of water.  Then cut the stems of the other flowers at different lengths and arrange them in the vase.

Place the two vases on the table together and add a few gourds to the arrangement and you are done!

Place the two vases on the table together and add a few gourds to the arrangement and you are done!  Quick, simple and under $10!

Happy Thanksgiving friends!

Enjoy!
