Wednesday’s Flowers – Green Ranunculus

May 4, 2011

As I have told you before I have a thing for Ranunculus, they are such a prefect flower with their fully layered blooms in luscious shades of pink, purple, red, yellow, orange, coral and white.  Plus they have the cutest little flower buds on sturdy round stems.  I really did not think they could get any better until I saw green Ranunculus over on Erin of Floret Flowers blog.  So of course I had to try them out.

My super awesome flower friend, Deb of PurpleFreesia Designs picked some up for me. They retail here in Canada for $2.60 to $3.00 per stem, one stem had several branches with at least two flowers and one bud.  I cut the stems a various heights and grouped them in milk glass vases on our teak chest.  They looked great in white but…

I have to say I was not impressed with these little guys, as they opened the large flowers started to look like celery foliage and lost all their shape.  The buds that stayed tight were nice to look at but these ones were all green without the hint of colour Erin’s had.  I like colour too much and I think that the combination hers had intrigued me more.  Maybe next time I will have to get them from her flower farm which is located in Washington’s beautiful Skagit Valley.  Wonder if she would ship to Canada, as she has an amazing selection of fresh cut flowers grown by her and her family.

What do you thinking about green Ranunculus??
