wednesday’s flowers – valentine’s day red

February 8, 2012

With Valentine’s Day only six days away, I want to use today’s Wednesday’s Flower post to discuss Valentine’s Day flowers and the use of the colour. We all are very familiar with the traditional 24 long stemmed red roses for the occasion but has that become a bit to cliché? Or do you love it?

Personally I’m not a fan of red for Valentine’s Day, I think it is over done and dated. I also do not agree with paying the increased prices for red roses for Valentine’s Day. Personally I associate red coloured flowers with Christmas and by Valentine’s Day I’m not quite ready to see it again.

I think the official colour scheme for Valentine’s Day should be pink and white with a touch of red, only at times.

So this year for the big day of love, the Living Fresh studio, is focusing on creating arrangements with flowers in shades of pink with white, and a little touch of red.

This arrangement was put together with some leftover flowers from last week. It includes the following flowers:

Red Tulips
Waxflower
Salal
Leucadendron

So what do you think about the colour red for Valentine’s Day? We would love to hear your take on it.

  • Couldn’t be more on the same page as you… Red roses are sooooo overdone and Evan knows never to get them for me, haha. This is such a gorgeous and creative alternative! Personally, sunflowers never get old – they do it for me every time!

  • This arrangement is gorgeous. Love tulips this time of year- they remind me spring is coming!
