pretty petals – keira garden roses

June 5, 2014

Keira. Isn’t she a beauty?  Keira is one of David Austin’s prize cut roses.  According to the David Austin growers, Keira “breaks all the normal rules for the cut flower industry, because each rose is subtly different in colour”  This is what we have come to love most about this rose.  Within a single bunch of roses, we will be graced with shades of blush, cream, or peach.  This “variety pack” of roses, so to speak, is a bonus for the current wedding trends because these three shades are highly sought after and combined.

Here is how the David Austin website poetically describes the shape of this stunning rose:  “The flowers are beautiful at all stages: the small, plump buds opening into glorious, rounded young blooms that eventually form spectacular cupped rosettes, each with around 100 petals. The edges of the outer petals have an attractive, lightly waved effect.”

But be forewarned:  garden roses are highly sought after this season.  If you know that you want Keira garden roses (or any garden rose for that matter) for an event, it is essential that you get your order in months in advance.  The demand for garden roses has sky rocketed in the last 18 months, and they are harder and harder to come by.  The retail price for garden roses ranges from $10 to $14 a stem, David Austin varieties cashing in at the higher price point.  But they are SO worth it!
