This sideboard, with its lovely figured oak veneer, rosette mounts and carved legs, was my Nana’s. She always called it the Divorce Case, not sure why? When she moved out of her big old multi-bedroom house into a condo years ago the sideboard was given to my Dad. When my parents moved it ended up in my possession.

The piece needs some repair and to be refinished, which I will get around to one day. Currently missing from it is a mirror that attaches to the back, the mirror has been broken for years.

It is a piece that I will never part with as it has too much sentimental value now that my Nana is gone. It is a reminder of day gone by.

It currently resides in our dining room.

I know I mentioned this light earlier this week but I had to make it part of my 52 object project because I absolutely adore this little vintage exit light!

I found this light while antique shopping with a friend in St. Jacob’s in the fall. After giving it a fresh coat of paint it sat on out kitchen counter for months waiting to be hung. We just got busy and house improvements and decorating projects got put to the side. Now that the weather is nice and we have a house guest coming next week. I’m inspired to get this place finished!

So hanging this light was the first project completed on the big task list of getting our little house ready for summer entertaining!

It is peony season in the fresh cut flower world and I could not be happier. Creating beautiful floral arrangements are so easy when peonies are involved! I will be playing with these lovelies ever chance I get while they are in season!

When I’m not busy with flowers I will be busy finishing the decorating of our home. Things have been put on hold for a while and it is finally long enough. The nice weather is inspiring me to want to entertain so that means this little house of ours needs to get pretty!

We got a good start on the pretty on Sunday when we hung a new light in out foyer. It is a vintage exit light I found while perusing a local antique market. What do you think?

I also got a whole lot of trim painted too!

“A mother is she who can take the place of all others but whose place no one else can take.”

In 1908, white carnations were the first Mother’s Day gift to ever be given in North America, dating back to the original celebration where Anna Jarvis handed out two of these flowers to every member of her church’s congregation that was a mother.

In light of this tradition, the Living Fresh Flower School invites you and your mom to our Mother’s Day workshop where we will make a classy floral arrangement mingling some traditional elements with modern day, resulting in a piece as unique as your mother!

This old oak pedestal dining table is the table my family gathered around for dinners and the table my two sisters and I sat at to do our homework. As a family we spent time celebrating, enjoyed the company of friends and even crying around this table. It has been a part of our family for a very long time, so long in fact that I cannot remember when it entered into our lives.

Today it lives with my spouse and I in our tiny little home. It is our primary dining table and seats only 4 people, but we usually squeeze in more. We share our dinners and weekend brunches at this table, have friends join us for meals around it and I use it when working on my floral creations. It is also a great backdrop for my floral and food photography.

It is marked up, well loved and worn but I adore it just the way it is.

This old vintage wool Persian area rug just might be one of my favourite decorating elements in our house. I adore all the colours in it and the bold statement it adds to our library. I also love its large size of 12′ by 14′. When we moved into our new home I feared it would not fit in our tiny space but it fits like a glove.

The rug originally belonged to my spouse’s German aunt; it made the trip to Canada with my spouse back in 2002.

It is a keeper!

Epiphytes are plants that grow upon another plant without causing the host plant any harm. They will happy grow on buildings and other objects providing they can receive the moisture and nutrients they require from the air. They are commonly found in the tropical rain forests.
