anne ten donkelaar – flower constructions

Pressed flowers and cut out images of blooms united together as one form the unique 3D floral art, Flower Constructions, by Anne Ten Donkelaar; an artist from Utrecht, The Netherlands.

Is there really anything more delicate and captivating? I mean have a good look at them, she constructs them by pinning each bloom, root, leave and what have you onto a board to create layers, which brings depth and dimension to the pieces.

Here is a description of Anne’s work from her website:

“A damaged butterfly, a broken twig, a bumblebee, some strangely grown weeds: I find all these unique discoveries in my path and then take them home to my studio. Here, I take my time to explore the objects and try to work out how I can show each one to it’s best advantage. My finds inspire me. While looking at them I can invent my own stories about their existence and their lives.

By protecting these precious pieces under glass, I give the objects a second life and hope to inspire people to make up their own stories about them.”

I love her thought process in creating her beautiful floral art.

Anne has some other interesting pieces made with butterflies and other insects, I strongly recommend taking a few minutes to soak up all the beauty she has to share on her website. Please let us know below what your favourite piece is from her amazing collection of floral art.

I could stare at them forever! Don’t you agree?
